Picture the small ritual most of us have at the edge of a pool or a shower. The pause, the reach for the clasp, the choice of whether the chain comes off or stays on.

You have probably seen the term on a product page, sitting next to a chain you liked, and wondered whether it was a quality marker or a bit of jargon.

You know the feeling. A bracelet looks perfect the day it arrives, you wear it everywhere for a season, and then one morning the clasp gives up or the gold tone fades to something paler at the edges.

You go to put on the necklace you wore yesterday and find it has tied itself into a knot overnight, somehow, in a closed drawer, all on its own.

It is the small daily decision that trips a lot of us up. You are about to step into the shower, you glance down at the necklace you have had on all day, and you pause: take it off, or leave it on?
